IMPRESSIVE LDH MOHYAL MELA

As Chief Guest Rzd. B.D. Bali accompanied by Guest of Honour Shri Rajeshwar Chaudhary arrived at the venue of MS Ludhiana Mohyal Mela venue, they were both accorded a warm floral welcome by office bearers of MS Ludhiana led by MS Ludhiana President Sardar Amolak Singh Datta, amidst chorus of Jai Mohyal. On completion of registration formalities they were escorted for the hoisting of the Mohyal Flag followed by Mohyal Prayer.

Chief Guest Rzd. B.D. Bali was requested by Bakshi Dwarka Nath Chhibber, advocate and ace comperer of the Mela proceeding, to declare open the Mela by lighting the traditional lamp amidst spontaneous clapping by the large number of biradari members.

The members stood up in silence in homage to the members of the biradari who had passed away recently.

A number of children participated in the cultural programme, and their speeches and performances received wide acclamation by the audience.

Chief Guest Rzd. B.D. Bali in his address expressed profound grief and sorrow at the demise of the daughter-in-law of MS Ludhiana President Sardar Amolak Singh Datta, on behalf of GMS MC Members and on behalf of the entire Mohyal fraternity. He said that he had talked with MS Ludhiana general secretary Shri Ved Pal Mohan and advised him to postpone the mela but he said that due to time lag, it is not possible to do it as a large number of invitations have gone out. Well, that is the way the Lord God’s will has to prevail.

Bali Sahib referred to the earlier times when the GMS meetings were held under leaking tin shed. Today, GMS, due to the benign grace of the Almighty has modern buildings and assets over Rs.200 crores. God was merciful to our community which had lost their all, following the upheaval of partition of the country.

In a forceful address he exhorted the Mohyals of Ludhiana, who are all well placed to build their own Mohyal Bhawan, and that his services were always available to them to meet the high officials and others for allotment of land. He referred to the example of Mohyals of Hoshiarpur who had collected funds and GMS had granted them a matching grant. They should all emulate the example of MS Hoshiarpur. He asked the large number of members present who desired to have their own Mohyal Bhawan to raise their hands. In unison the hands went up. He was assured that Mohyals of Ludhiana would raise Rs.5 lakhs within six months and seek GMS matching grant. There was exuberance prevailing all around at this decision. Several persons announced their donations for the Bhawan Fund.

Earlier, Bakshi N.D. Datta and Shri J.P. Mehta were also accorded a warm floral welcome as they arrived at the Mela venue. Bakshi N.D. Datta presented a cheque for Rs.5100 to MS Ludhiana on behalf of GMS President RZD. B.D. Bali. Shri Rajeshwar Choudhary also presented Rs. 5000 to MS Ludhiana. A number of Local Sabhas representatives also donated liberally to MS Ludhiana.

A special feature was the awarding of prizes to new-born children’s parents and also to newly wed couples.

Shri K.K. Vaid and Dr. Bakshi offered scholarships to deserving and meritorious students of the community.

With the presentation of mementos to all the participants and members present, including Rzd. B.D. Bali and Shri Rajeshwar Choudhary the historic mela came to a close, amidst bon homie and to meet again.

ALL INDIA MOHYAL YOUTH CAMP-2007 AT JALANDHAR

The 3rd Mohyal Camp was held at Jalandhar from 24th-26th of Nov., 2007. I along with Guneet Mehta, Balram Datta, Kunal Datta and Nikal Mehta representing Faridabad Mohyal Sabha left for Jalandhar, by the bus arranged by GMS. During the journey, we met some new friends, Ridhi Datta from Gurgaon, and Vimal Bali and Kamal Bali from Mehrauli. It was wonderful, enjoying with peer group, and very exciting to be in the company of Shri J.L. Bali, Shri Harsh Datta, Shri P.L. Bali and Shri G.L. Mehta, from whom we learnt a lot.

On reaching Jalandhar, we were given a warm welcome by Shri Ashwani Bali, Shri Yogesh Mehta, Shri Pushap Bali, Sh. Ashok Datta, Shri Pawan Bali, Shri S.K. Dutta (President MS Jalandhar) and Shri Ravi Nandan Choudhary (Sheru).

Next morning, at the Lions Club, we were given an opportunity to express our views on four topics, given by Dr. Ashok Lav, viz., In what way Youth expect guidance/help from Mohyal Industrialists? A feeling of pride ran through me and, simultaneously, I felt it a great honour that our elders had placed their faith on us. We tried to avail of this opportunity in the best possible manner.

Guneet Mehta, Vikas Bali, Gautam Mohan, and I presented our views in front of all. Our suggestion for a separate Business Column in Mohyal Mitter was really appreciated. Everyone admitted that Youth can avail of it to get maximum benefit from the experience of the venerable veterans.

Rzd. B.D. Bali assured the youth that they will consider the suggestions.

The programme ended with the rocking D.J. and Punjabi Dhol.

The trip was full of fun, excitement and new experiences. I, as the representative of Mohyal Sabha Faridabad, admire the initiative taken by GMS to encourage the participation of Youth. I am greatly obliged to it.

The hospitality of Shri Rajeshwar Choudhary (Datta), Shri Pushap Bali, Shri Vinod Datta, Shri Varun Bali, Shri Pawan Bali and their team made us feel at home.

I heartily thank GMS and Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar for arranging the wonderful camp and would really request them to give us more opportunity of the same kind in future.

Dear Sir,

We, attended the All India Mohyal Youth Camp-07 from 24th Nov. to 26 Nov. 07 at Jalandhar. We liked the view of Devi Talab Temple & place where we stayed. We were very happy and liked the arrangements made by the local sabha in the temple premises.

We liked the cultural programmes very much which touched our heart deeply.

A group discussion was also arranged on the topic (Role of Mohyal Youth) which was really appreciated by us. We also gave our suggestions on the above topic. Everyone liked the suggestions very much.

We were glad to listen to the views, speeches, comments, etc of the Chief Guest Rzd. B.D. Bali (the backbone and pillar of GMS, high visionary, affectionate attitude, lovely nature, dynamic personality and widely known for his qualities of head and heart), Guest of Honour Sh. Rajeshwar Choudhary (Trustee GMS), also members, students etc. We also liked the surprise gift and lottery ticket programme organised by the sabha.

All arrangements made by the sabha were very very good. We really appreciate the hard work/efforts done by the sabha to make the programme a grand success.

Meeting the Mohyal members is a memorable and lovely experience. We learn many things from them and never forget it.

We heartily thank the MS Jalandhar and GMS for organising such a grand function. We also hope that these camps will be organised once in a year (not in two or three years). We give special thanks to Shri Pushap Bali for the arrangements made by him in the temple premises.

We will try our level best to come with more Mohyal Youth members so that the number of participants is increased.

We are proud to be Mohyals and will always work for the betterment, welfare, & upliftment of the community and the country.

GMS HAS DONE IT AGAIN

SURBHI MEHTA
How painstaking laborious job it would be to find a suitable match for a marriageable offspring! But look, how easy GMS has made this tedious job by organising such an elaborate fantastic ‘Matrimonial Mela’.

Here, on this GMS platform, parents are given such a fabulous choice of eligible girls and boys for their sons and daughters, respectively. Earlier, parents had only one or two choices in hand. They had to find an eligible match for their children only from such a limited choice.

Now, on the ‘Matrimonial Mela’ day, GMS is giving wide choices to these parents by providing a list of marriageable boys and girls along with their education, job, date of birth, whether they are manglik or non-manglik. Alongwith the list, on Matrimonial Mela Day, GMS also provided computers and Pandits to make and match the horoscopes for the convenience of the parents.

I, on behalf of the whole Mohyal biradari, take the privilege to appreciate and congratulate GMS, who under the supreme guidance of Rzd. B.D. Bali has made such a laudable effort by organising the ‘Matrimonial Mela’ to strengthen the Mohyal biradari.

BRIEF HISTORY OF NOIDA MOHYAL SABHA

Noida had come up as a Satellite Township of Delhi in the early eighties and people started settling down here. The pioneering efforts of a few dedicated Mohyals like Shri Y.P. Datta, Shri O.P. Bakshi, Shri R.L. Bali etc. culminated in the formation of Noida Mohyal Sabha (NMS) and its first meeting was held on 17.5.1987. The first Executive Committee was elected on 14.6.1987, with Shri Vidya Sagar Mehta (Mohan) as President, Shri Y.P. Datta as Secretary and S/Shri J.M. Mohan, H.L. Bali, J.C. Chhibber, R.L. Bali, Gp. Capt. B.S. Bakshi (Chhibber), H.D. Datta, Randhir Vaid and S.L. Mohan as Members.

Shri Vidya Sagar Mehta (Mohan) s/o Mehta Gian Singh Mohan of Veeram Dattan, Sialkot District (now Pak.), ‘Founder President’ of NMS, was a symbol of true Mohyaliat, who worked for the Mohyal Community throughout his life with full dedication and determination. He had retired from the Punjab Police Service as Dy. Supdt. of Police and settled in Noida. After the death of his wife, Smt. Sham Mehta, he donated land for Mohyal Ashram at Jalandhar, which has been christened as Sham Mehta Memorial Bhai Mati Das Mohyal Ashram. He left for his heavenly abode on 01 March 2001 at the age of 86 years.

All the members of subsequent Managing Committees, with Presidents, Shri R.L. Vaid and Shri S.L. Datta, and Secretaries, Shri Y.P. Datta, Gp. Capt. B.S. Bakshi and Shri K.K. Mehta, with their dedicated teams, continued to make useful contributions for the cause of the community.

Lt. Gen. G.L. Bakshi, PVSM (Retd.) was unanimously elected as President of NMS in Jan. 1999. Other members of the present Executive Committee are Shri Ram Avtar Chhibber, IPS (Retd.) and Col. P.S. The NMS has been holding regular meetings on the first Sunday of every month which are attended by a large number of members including ladies. The first Mohyal Mela was organized on 8.5.1988 and, thereafter, it has become almost an annual feature. Various competitions, viz. games, songs, jokes, dances, quiz competitions, cultural programmes, magic shows, fancy dress, musical chairs, balloon bursting, jumping, lucky draws etc. are held, in which children and ladies take part very enthusiastically. Prizes are given to the lucky winners. The meritorious students are also rewarded at these special functions.

The NMS also honours the Mohyal veterans, who have attained the age of 75 years. So far, six members, viz. Mrs. Iqbal Datta w/o the late Col. A number of out-door picnics at scenic places have been organised, including a visit to the Mohyal Ashram, Haridwar. All these functions have helped in uniting and bringing together all the community members, including ladies and children.

The NMS is affiliated to the GMS. Most of the members of the sabha are Life Members of GMS and are also contributing liberally to various GMS Funds i.e. Langar Fund, Education Fund, Benevolent Fund etc.

NMS members have taken part in maximum numbers in the activities of GMS, including Mohyal Milans, meetings of Presidents and Secretaries of local sabhas, inauguration functions of Mohyal Ashram and Sewa Sadan, Haridwar, Match-making get-togethers, Mohyal Youth Seminar, All-India Mohyal Conference, Annual General Meeting etc. and have made valuable contributions in furthering the cause of Mohyaliat. The NMS representative member attends the monthly meetings of GMS Managing Committee.

The monthly meetings of NMS are full of enjoyable events, like Tambola, and intellectual discussions on various topics of National and International importance, followed by a sumptuous lunch served by the host-family. So far, important topics of Budget, Investment, Entry of Lady Officers in the Armed Forces, Sachar Committee Report, Indo-US Nuclear Agreement, New Pension Scheme, etc. have been discussed. This has helped in enhancing the general awareness of the members.

NMS members always take keen interest and strive hard for the welfare and alround upliftment of the Mohyal Community.

It is a matter of great pride and privilege for NMS that during the Mohyal Mela organized by the GMS at the school premises near GMS Office, New Delhi on 23.9.2007, our President, Lt. Gen. G.L. “LIFE OF A TEENAGER’’

A teenager’s life is full of zest as well as bliss. It is the age during which a teenager–whether a boy or girl–is fully active and has a lot of anxieties and tension in him/her. It is a time of dilemma, but the most rapturous time of life. Besides this it is the time of life when an individual comes to know and sees the real meaning of life-what is it? and what is it meant for? etc. He/ she tastes the brunt of life which is really very bitter, as a result, the dreams get shattered. He/she undergoes many biological, physical as well as psychological changes.

During this period, a teenager learns to develop his/her personality, which, later on, has a great influence on his/her character. Whatever a teenager grabs and whichever factors help him/her to develop his/her character and the environment in which he/she has been brought up may lead him/her either to the wrong way or to the right path. So, a teenager should always be alert and concerned about his/her company and habits. Apart from this, some of the teenagers land up into taking drugs, which, once it becomes a habit, is very difficult to give up. Some of the affluent teenagers also start smoking and drinking which is very harmful. Not only this, many teenagers get confused with the word “sex’’ and land up into problems.

On the whole, a teenager’s life is very tight. As a student, he/she has lots to study. But then, one should always devote one’s time and energy to other activities and sport, to ensure one’s allround development.

—N.K. Mehta, Navi Mumbai

Maj. Gen. Bakshi is the son of the late Shri Ram Singh Bakshi, a landlord in Bakshiana, Tehsil Guzarkhan, Rawalpindi (Pak.) & Smt. Pushpawanti Bakshi, and the grandson of the late Sardari Lal Dutt Bakshi, who was a Jagirdar in Kashmir. He was commissioned in the Indian Army in 1971 and has recently retired as an Electronic & Mechanical Engineering Corps Officer, after a prestigious career of 36 years.

He was one of the first graduates to pass out from the Meerut University, is a Life Member of the Computer Society of India, Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from JMM, Delhi, and the only Mohyal officer, who was selected for doing M. Tech. in Computers from Granfield University in UK, which he completed with outstanding grades in 1981. He was awarded VSM in 2003 during ‘Operation Parakram’, the only such officer in the Corps. He also has the distinction of receiving the Chief of Army Staff’s Medal twice.

His nomination as GMS MC Member was unanimously approved by the house.

Welcoming his nomination into the Managing Committee, Rzd. B.D. Bali proposed that, having regard to his qualifications and experience in Computers, he may also be made a member of the Governing Council of MERIT. This was also approved unanimously.

Website of GMS: Shri Yogesh Mehta stated that the GMS Website needs regular updating; even though updating is being done, but since this is being got done through an outside agency in NOIDA (for which GMS is paying them a substantial amount as monthly and annual fee), there is delay in updating. He suggested that this work may be taken over by GMS itself, by which the site could be updated even on a day-to-day basis. This would also save the expenditure being incurred on payment of fee to the outside agency.

Dr. Rattan Datta, CEO, MERIT, informed that the matter was already under consideration and that the Website would be brought under MERIT, within two month.

Registration of the Nursery School at Dehradun: Shri D.V. Mohan stated that a GMS Team had recently visited the school in Dehradun and found that it was doing extremely well.

In order to get recognition from the local authorities, it was necessary to get the school registered. But such registration may not be necessary if the same is run by an already registered organization. The school is being run by the GMS office at Dehradun, but that office has not been formally notified as a Branch Office of GMS. It was, therefore, necessary that the GMS Managing Committee declare it as Branch Office, through a formal Resolution.

Accordingly, the Secretary General placed before the house the following Resolution for consideration and approval:

Whereas the General Mohyal Sabha was first established in the year 1891 at Lahore (now in Pakistan) and subsequently shifted and registered with the Registrar of Societies at Delhi on August 16, 1955 and, registered as a charitable organization with the Income Tax Authorities on September 15, 1984 at New Delhi and further by virtue of Article 3 of the Constitution of the Sabha its jurisdiction extends to the whole of India and abroad.

To achieve the aims and objects of the Sabha as enunciated in Article 5 of its constitution, the Managing Committee of the Sabha in its meeting held on November 11, 2007 passed the following resolution:

“Resolved to open a Branch Office of the General Mohyal Sabha at Dehradun in the state of Uttrakhand to render useful service to the general public as mentioned in Article 5 of the Constitution of the Sabha. The Branch Office will be known as “General Mohyal Sabha (Regd.), Branch Office, Dehradun.” This branch office will be looked after by a Manager to deal with the day to day matters with the concerned authorities.”

Further resolved that a copy of this resolution along with an authenticated copy of the Constitution may be forwarded to the concerned authorities at Dehradun.”

The house unanimously adopted the Resolution. It was also decided that a copy of the Resolution may be sent to the Manager of the school for being forwarded to the educational and other authorities concerned in the Government of Uttarakhand.

GURGAON

n On the very first Sunday of the year, 6th Jan. 2008, the sabha organised a very Special Programme i.e. Free Eye Camp dedicated to the service of mankind.

On popular request from the members as also the general public, the sabha had taken this yet another step to serve the needy members. Earlier, the sabha had organized successfully “Free Medical Camp’’ on the 6th May 2007, from which more than 150 needy persons benefited.

The Free Eye Camp was organised at Mohyal Colony, Gurgaon. Doctors from Umkal Hospital conducted eye tests to diagnose the eye ailments and recommended the treatment to suit each specific case. The medicines were provided to the patients free of cost by the sabha. In all, more than one hundred patients benefited from the “Free Eye Camp.’’

Wide publicity had been given to the Free Eye Camp through leaflets and recorded cassettes over mike, in areas around the Mohyal Colony, Jharsa where poorer sections lived and the nearby public school. There was encouraging response from all quarters and the Camp was a thumping success. As in the earlier Free Medical Camp it was gratifying to observe that this time also, the overwhelming majority of beneficiaries were persons from the poorer starta of society. The Mohyals, as per their age-old noble traditions, were present, not as self-seekers, but for the service of mankind.
