| FOR KIND ATTENTION OF ESTEEMED GMS MEMBERS AND MOHYAL MITTER SUBSCRIBERS | -
Mohyal Mitter, which has the distinction of being the oldest published magazine in the sub-continent, is dispatched on the last two working days of every month. The mailing is done under bulk posting at concessional rates (Rs.0.50), from the Principal Sorting Office (PSO),Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi, who test-check our list with pin-code numbers of all the addresses and addressed copies of the Mohyal Mitter before accepting the same from us for dispatch. Bundles meant for outstations are sent by the PSO to the concerned stations without opening and are opened at the respective stations for distribution there. Like all other magazines sent at concessional postal rates for bulk posting, Mohyal Mitter comes in the category of second class mail under the postal categorization. In the circumstances, it can take between 2 to 15 days for the delivery of the magazine copies, especially at outstations. The role of the GMS in the dispatch of the magazine should normally cease, after the same has been delivered at the PSO, and it cannot be held responsible for any loss in transit, resulting in the non-delivery of the magazine. In spite of that, all requests for replacement copies, received on the telephone, or in writing, are being honoured and substitute copies mailed to them at normal postal rates (Rs.2.00). Some understanding subscribers do request us to send the magazine by Registered post or through courier, at their cost. Such special requests are always complied with. -
The present yearly cost of one copy of Mohyal Mitter, which includes cost of paper, printing, plastic cover, postage and overheads, works out to Rs.230/-. Besides the Patrons, Pratisht Members and Life Members of the Sabha, to whom the Mitter is supplied free for whole of their life, we have Annual Subscribers, who subscribe for a calendar year, at a nominal subscription of Rs.50/-, against the existing cost of Rs.230/-, resulting in a subsidy of Rs.180/-,per year, for each annual subscriber. This is being done in the interest of closer link between the GMS, as an apex body of Mohyals, and members of the community at large. -
On the basis of remarks of the postal authorities on copies of magazine received back, and information gathered from other sources, we have tried to analyse the causes of non- delivery of magazine, in approximately 3-4% of cases, for taking remedial measures. Such causes broadly fall in the following categories:- | | a) | Subscribers do not renew their yearly subscription in time i.e. before 31st December each year. | | b) | Address is not written legibly with the name of locality, Pin code etc. specially when the subscription is sent by somebody other than the subscribers themselves. | | c) | Subscribers shift their residence without informing the GMS about the new address. | | d) | Starting or renewing a subscription is done anytime during the year, expecting to receive the Mitter for full one year, starting from that date, instead of subscribing for the calendar year. | | e) | Mailing List is prepared by a computer and not manually. Such a list is finalized on 20th of each month. Naturally, subscription received after 20th of a month cannot be accommodated in the dispatch list of that particular month. | | f) | These days, most of the money orders are received through satellite channels and do not carry the details filled by the subscribers in the column prescribed for the purpose. The money order has to be followed by a post card or a letter giving detailed address etc. This is invariably not done. | | g) | Many lapses on the part of delivery Postman have also come to our notice Specially where the subscribers live in multi storied builds and the Postman just throws the magazines at the ground floor, without bothering to locate the letter box. | | h) | In some cases, computer or typing error takes place in the GMS office also. Such mistakes are rectified immediately they come to our notice. | -
It can be safely concluded that most of the above noted causes can be avoided or eliminated; but, for this, a lot of vigilance and cooperation is required from the subscribers themselves. We start receiving complaints about the non-receipt of Mohyal Mitter, immediately after dispatch, without the subscribers waiting for a period of about two weeks because of the dispatch being a second class post. We send substitute copies, as stated already, and invariably the subscribers receive their originally dispatched copies also, in due time. This results in avoidable expenditure on substitute copies and normal postal charges. Most of the problems can be eliminated if, instead of sending subscription yearly, our esteemed subscribers become Life Members of the GMS by making a one-time payment of Rs.2,100/-, thereby receiving our beloved Mohyal Mitter regularly for whole of their life, and, in addition, enjoying all the rights and privileges of a Life Member of the GMS. It may be noted that we are planning to shortly issue photo Identity Cards to all Patrons, Pratisht Members and Life Members of the GMS. -
Cooperation of all in the matter will be highly appreciated. Dharam Vir Mohan (Secretary General)
