About 1000 Mohyals took part. After the flag hoisting and welcome address by Rzd. B.D. Bali, the youth were divided into four groups, as decided on the previous day, and the leaders were requested to come up with their reports in the afternoon. Reports of Team Leaders: After the Preeti Bhoj, the four Team Leaders presented their respective reports to the assemblage. Group I – (Topic - Role of Local Mohyal Sabhas for the empowerment of youth): The Group led by Shri M.B. Bali, in their report, made the following points: 1. The interaction of the local sabhas with the youth is minimal. Group II - (Youth Expectations from GMS): This group was led by Shri Rajendra Mehta (Lau). It made the following suggestions: 1. GMS should reach those areas, where no local sabha exists. Group III – (In what ways youth expect help/guidance from Mohyal Industrialists?): The group, led by Shri Vikas Bali, made the following suggestions: 1. There should be reservation for Mohyals in the Companies. Group IV – (How to inculcate Mohyali Culture in Mohyal Youth?): This group was led by Shri Navdeep Dutta and made the following recommendations: 1. The elder Mohyals should take their children and grandchildren to the meetings of the local sabhas, Mohyal Melas etc. By this, one generation gets culturally connected with the next generation. Reacting to the reports presented by the four groups, Dr. Rattan K. Datta CEO MERIT explained the facilities being provided by GMS through MERIT. He expressed his concern that why Mohyal youth is not getting the benefit from all the programs conducted by MERIT? He also offerred admission of qualified Mohyal youth to the engineering courses of PTU and help in placement. After that Rzd. B.D. Bali stressed the need for Mohyal youth to actively participate in the programmes of the GMS and the local sabhas, by enrolling themselves as members of these. They should actively work with the local sabhas. The community needs the youth. If the community is to progress, the youth has to come forward. GMS wants to give scholarships; but there are not enough applicants. We want to help the poor in conducting marriages of their children. But there are no takers. We also want to open schools. Rzd. B.D. Bali added that the progress made by the community during the last 30 years had been phenomenal. The entire picture of the community has changed. Mohyals, as a community, stand out now. It is necessary for the youth to persevere and make the community proud. We have brought the biradari to this level and now the youth should take over and take it further forward. The cultural programme, with song & dance, which followed next, kept the audience spell-bound. The dignitaries present, including Rzd. B.D. Bali, Shri Rajeshwar Chaudhuri, Shri S.K. Dutta, President, District Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar and other office bearers of the GMS as well as the locals sabha, congratulated the participants in the cultural programme and many of them showered the children with gifts of money. GMS office bearers and representatives of other local sabhas were presented with tropies and memntoes by the District Local Sabha, Jalandhar. Shri Pushap Bali was honoured by GMS for his brave act of saving a young girl from drowning in the Devi Talab Mandir Sarovar.. 26th November 2007: The programme concluded with Brunch on the morning of the 26th November 2007. The Youth Camp – 2007 was a memorable occasion, in which children, youth, ladies, and elders participated with enthusiasm, and will be remembered for a long time to come. 6. The Second Grand Matrimonial Mela The Second Grand Matrimonial Mela was organized by the GMS at the Mohyal Foundation, New Delhi, on the 9th December 2007. The first such Mela had been held at the same venue in April 2006, which had culminated in about 150 alliances (75 marriages). The Second Matrimonial Mela was attended by around 700 persons, including parents, guardians and their marriageable children. Many of them (403) had sent the bio-data of their children to the GMS, in the prescribed form, earlier. These had been compiled into caste-wise lists – separately for boys and girls – and distributed to the parents. Some of the participants (75) had furnished the bio-data on the spot, which were also compiled into Supplementary Lists and distributed. Arrangements had been made for matching horoscopes by the traditional Panditji as well as through computer. About 475 parents (250 through ‘Computer’ and 225 through the ‘Panditji’ took advantage of this facility. The lists of boys and girls included highly qualified engineers, doctors, MBAs, M.Coms., LLBs, hotel managers, accountants, teachers, graduates, entrepreneurs, businessmen, owners of Cinema halls etc. The bio-data had been received not only from many parts within the country, but also from abroad, viz., USA, UK, Canada and Spain. Rzd. B.D. Bali ,who presided over the function, was very much enthused by the response to this initiative of the GMS, last year as well as this year, and stated that this indicated a welcome trend that the Mohyals everywhere desired to marry their children within the community. He hoped that many alliances will be finalized as a result of this Mela. He also briefly touched on the resurgence off the community during the last three decades and stated the rank and file of the Mohyals now stand united under the GMS. He exhorted the Mohyals to become Life Members of the GMS and suggested that each Mohyal family should subscribe to the Mohyal Mitter. Mrs. Krishan Lata Chhibber, Secretary Istri Wing, GMS, and Convenor of the Matrimonial Mela, requested that the GMS may be informed of the alliances that may be finalized arising out of the Mela, so that the GMS data-base could be updated. It is noteworthy that she, together with her indefatigable husband, Shri S.K. Chhibber, worked tirelessly day in and day out for organising the Mela and they deserve our heartiest congratulations and thanks for the success of the event. The function concluded with a sumptuous Preeti Bhoj arranged by the GMS.
