gms to develop mohyal ashram park

On our persistent request, the Haridwar Development Authority has agreed to hand over the park behind the Mohyal Ashram, Haridwar, to the GMS, for development and maintenance. The level of the park is being raised, after which a beautiful park with walkways and a water body, is proposed to be developed by the GMS. A design for the same has been got prepared by a renowned land scape architect.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.4 to 5 lakhs. Our philanthropic Mohyal brethren, ever willing to donate for good causes, are requested to make liberal donations to the GMS for this project also as they had done in the past for construction of the Mohyal Ashram and Sewa Sadan at Haridwar.

The sooner the donations are received  the faster will the “Dream Park’’  come up, which will be a place of recreation and rest for both children and the aged, alike.

D.V. Mohan, Secretary General

spirituality is within us all

Believe in the Supreme Power, which is more powerful than human beings. Love life and be thankful to the Supreme Power for being so benevolent. Every night, pray to Him and thank Him for all that He has done for you. Life is not a bed of roses, and there have been moments when you had traumatic experiences. In such an eventuality, seek His intervention.

You do not have to abandon material things to engage in spiritual practice. Even if you are totally materialistic, you will find that there is already a part of your mind that is flowing in a spiritual direction. It might not be your conscious philosophy; but in the depths of your consciousness there is a spiritual stream of energy constantly in motion.

There is no value to life without joy. There is a joy that pierces through every moment of our lives. Love is the reason to act even when no final purpose can be perceived. We should live with a free-flying emotion that allows us pure clarity and energy to work without self-interest. It’s a simple task, but very difficult. Visiting temples, mosques and churches is only a physical representation of this respect for the Supreme being. He is too complex a phenomenon to understand, yet makes everything simpler if you have the right kind of faith. However, seek to reach Him through other acts, like being kind to the lesser-privileged, doing something for the poor, however small that might be.

Every such act helps one strengthen the bond with Him while giving one a chance to give something back to
society.

We live only once!

Therefore cherish every moment of your life, like it were your last!

Our apex body, GMS, the repository of the Mohyali ethos, has grown from strength to strength, evoking an enviable record of its achievements, encompassing a wide field of social obligations and selfless service in the overall betterment, upliftment of the fraternity.

room donation & addition to trust

I remember the train journey, 27 years ago, from New York to Philadelphia. Tripta, my younger sister, met at the station with a friend. I knew of what had happened and kept mum till we were alone at home. I said, “Bau ji has passed away’’. Tripta answered, “yes’’ and showed me the telegrams. God is great, I thought-office work was over and we were together to share our grief. I saw the telegrams again on return to Brussels.

I am donating Rs.27,000/- bringing the total to Rs.3,27,000/- for two rooms at Sewa Sadan, Haridwar, in memory of my parents Ch. Hans Raj Datta and Mrs. Dewan Devi Datta of Khanna, Aznali, Sirhind formerly of Chak Joya, Gujranwala, now in W. Pakistan.

FROM THE ANNALS OF HISTORY

Whenever we talk of Mohyals, Mohyal Mitter or the General Mohyal Sabha, the name of Munshi Bakshi Ram Das Chhibber, son of Bakshi Tulsi Das Chhibber of Behra, comes out first and foremost. He was born on December 25, 1850.  The entire Mohyal Community is indebted to this Mohyal Pioneer and stalwart, who, single-handedly, in the eighties of the nineteenth century, even before the establishment of Mohyal Mitter Sabha at Lahore on May 24, 1891, started a Community Magazine by the name “Miratul Mohyali” that literally means ‘Mohyal Times.’ Munshi Ji, who was one of the first eleven Trustees of the Mohyal Mitter Sabha, was a renowned teacher of Urdu and Persian languages and used to teach not only the members of the Viceroy’s Council and  the  British staff, but also the  wives and daughters of many British Viceroys of India, last being Lord Minto. This helped him in establishing contact with the high ups of that time.  He did not use these contacts for his personal benefit. He was an uncle (Tau) to all the aspiring Mohyals of the time and helped them in securing jobs in different departments of the then British Government. He used to personally escort any and every Mohyal who approached him and introduced him as his nephew, well qualified for the job.

Munshi Ji did not have any children of his own. He was a great donor and philanthropist. He donated Rs.30,000/- that was a very big amount at that time, to the DAV College Managing Committee at Lahore for the purpose of granting scholarships to poor Mohyal students studying at their Technical Institute. He also donated Rs.18,000/- to the General Mohyal Sabha, Lahore, for the construction of a Guest House and shops at Mohyal Ashram, Lahore the income from which was to be given to Mohyal widows. He donated Rs.2,000/- for the construction of Mohyal Ashram, Rawalpindi.  He got constructed, at his cost, a room at the Charitable Arya Hospital, Rawalpindi, in the memory of his late father Bakshi Tulsi Dass. All his life he had been donating money for the help of orphans, widows and relief to poor people. He donated Rs. 1,000/- for the Patna earthquake victims. In fact he had liquidated all his money from the Bank and given it in charity. He had some agricultural land and a house at Behra.  Through a will, he left all his immoveable and moveable property to his nephew (sister’s son), Bakshi Puran Lal Dutta, who took care of him during the last three years of his life.  He expired on 1st of May 1937 at the age of 87 years.

There are not many people left who have seen Munshi Bakshi Ram Das Chhibber, in person. For our proposed Mohyal Archives, we have been appealing to all brethren to send to us documents, photographs, certificates, books, old issues of Mohyal Mitter etc. for safe custody in the Mohyal Archives.

From the description we have read or heard, the image of late Munshi Bakhshi Ram Das Chhibber is that of a bearded regal Mohyal wearing a long coat. Shri Rajesh Dutta son of Bakshi Yogeshwar Lal Dutta and grandson of late Bakshi Puran Lal Dutta, has sent to us a group photograph showing Munshi Ji, in his trade mark white beard, looking like Gurudev Tagore. In the photograph, he is shown sitting with his nephew Bakshi Puran Lal Dutta and latter’s sons Yogeshwar and Devishwar Dutta. Shri Rajesh Dutta has also sent to us photocopies of some of the testimonials that Munshi Ji received from the high British officials, of the time, as also copy of his last will and testament. All these documents shall be kept in the proposed Mohyal Archives.

Happy Birthday Gaurav Mohan

Shri Gaurav Mohan, General Secretary Mohyal Sabha, Toronto Canada is a very young and dynamic personality. He was born at Village LAMBRA near Jalandhar, Punjab on 8th May 1980. He belongs to a highly educated, cultured, respected and well known family. He is son of Smt. Sneh Mohan and Sh. Satish Kumar Mohan. Lambra is a unique Mohyal Village with only MOHAN’s and CHHIBBAR’s in its population. Sh. Gaurav Mohan started to serve Mohyal community as Joint Secretary of Youth Mohyal Sabha, Jalandhar when it was formed. Sh. Mohan along with his younger brother Sh. Gautam Mohan not only participated very actively in Sabha affairs but also inspired all youth from Lambra to be members of Youth Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar and also subscribed them for Mohyal Mitter. He also paid subscription fees on their behalf. Both brothers attended all Mohyal Melas and Conferences be it a Mohyal Mela in Najafgarh or Inauguration Ceremony of Mohyal Ashram in Haridwar where both of them worked as volunteers. Both brothers were like a bridge between Mohyals of Lambra and Mohyals living elsewhere. Being one of the founding members of Youth Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar, he along with President Sh. Pushap Bali, Sh. Varun Bali, Sh. Amit Dutta and Sh. Ashok Dutta General Secretary of the Sabha went door by door to make members of YMS Jalandhar. He was very much inspired and encouraged by all three to serve the community. He was just 20 years old at that time and had so much devotion to serve the fraternity. Although he was not present at the Mohyal Mela organized by YMS, Jalandhar in December 2002 yet he was given special recognition award by YMS and received by his brother.  The first impression of Sh. Gaurav & Gautam to Sh. Pushap Bali (President YMS) was that “Both brothers are like two young but strong shoulders that are capable of taking Mohyal Community to new heights. Both of them have a sense of responsibility which we see rarely in young people”. Both brothers are life-members of GMS.

Mr. Mohan is a Software Consultant by profession and owns his own Software Consulting Company based in Toronto. He has worked with top Indian IT Companies like iGate, Infosys and other MNC’s like RBC, Microsoft, VMC, Volt etc. He received his education from India and Canada.

He is always ready to do anything for community in whatever possible ways he could. He found www.mohyals.com on internet and saw its Directory section “Coming Soon”” he compiled one for Mohyals living in and around Jalandhar and published it online.

After coming to Canada in the Summer of 2002 he tried to find Mohyal Sabha in Toronto but there was none at that time and since that day he thought of creating one in that part of the world. Since, he was trying to establish himself in a new country, there was hardly any time left for this effort still he tried to connect with other Mohyals and created an online Mohyal Group on Yahoo Groups. Through this group he came to know two other staunch Mohyals Sh. Subhash Chhibber from Waterloo, Ontario and Shri Mahinder Chowhdary from Kingston, Ontario who always shared the same feelings of creating a Mohyal Sabha in Canada. Mr. Mohan wanted to get “MOHYAL” as his car number plate but Sh. Subhash Chhibber already had it for last 40 years so he got “MOHYALS” as his car number. On November 23rd, 2007 when GMS organized “All India Mohyal Youth Camp” at Jalandhar Sh. Mohan Contacted Sh. B.D. Bali Ji, Sh. Yogesh Mehta General Secretary All India Youth Mohyal Sabha and expressed a strong desire about forming a Sabha in Canada. After getting a lot of encouragement he started creating a Mohyal Directory of Toronto Area and contacting them. He even met so many of them personally and persuaded them to participate and make this happen.

Finally, the Mohyal Sabha in Toronto came into existence on 27th 2007 with collective efforts by Shri Yash Dutta, Sh. Subhash Chhibber, Sh. Jagdish C. Dutta and Sh. Gaurav Mohan to name a few. After formation Mr. Mohan was selected as General Secretary of the Sabha. He is the youngest General Secretary of any Mohyal Sabha.

We are very proud of Sh. Gaurav Mohan who in such a young age has so much dedication to serve Mohyal Community in any way he can serve.  Just like he was a bridge between Mohyals of Lambra and other parts of the country he is now a bridge between Mohyals of Canada and India. He is like a plant nurtured by Youth Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar who not only benefited them but also Mohyal Sabha Toronto, Canada. We need to engage more youth in community activities and let them take the lead.

Once again Happy Birth Day Gaurav.

The Wealthiest Man!

J.S. Bali

Everything is for life; what is life itself for?

Secret of life remains ever under cover

We come and go without apparent purpose

None comes on his plan, nor goes on his time

Time is short, life is short—mankind’s incessant refrain

Time once gone never comes back, poets have sung in vain

Life is time, time is wealth,  gurus do guide:

‘Early to bed , early to rise , healthy wealthy and wise’

What is time ? Time is motion, says Einstein

Expanding universe shall stop one day

And become a shrinking universe

Nearer and nearer,  till existence becomes a point

Existence or non-existence, Zero is the destination

Zero , the most powerful— the densest matter or energy

Belittle it not lest it decides to stage the ‘ big bang’

And start the universe all over again

“Whatever is born, must die”, says the Geeta

The lethal law rules the humble bacterium, the mighty stars

When motion stops, even time dies; nothing for ever;

But Who is the Prime Mover, the Creator of laws?

And why does He bother to create ?

Cosmic dance of Nataraja ? Or His Leela?

Veil over Illusive Truth shall never lift

The Managing Committee of the GMS in its meeting held on 11 May 2008 condoled the untimely death of Shri Vimal Bali s/o Rzd Ashwani Bali, Secretary Public Relation GMS and Smt Anita Bali on 25th April 2008.

Rich tributes were paid to late Shri Vimal Bali who was a very upcoming Mohyal youngman having a bright future. Everybody remembered him as a staunch Mohyal who helped every Mohyal in need and was always present in Mohyal functions organized by the GMS or any Local Mohyal Sabhas. Everybody appreciated the very active role played by Shri Vimal Bali in the compilation and matching the horoscope and personal particulars of Mohyal Boys and Girls at the time of Matrimonial Mela held on 09 December 2007.

The Managing Committee of GMS through this resolution joins the family of Shri Vimal Bali in their hour of grief and pray to God Almighty to grant them strength enough to bear this unbearable loss. The Managing Committee also prays for peace to the departed soul.
