(1) All India Mohyal Youth Camp – 2007

The Mohyal Youth Camp – 2007 was held at Jalandhar from the 24th to the 26th November 2007, as per the already published programme.

Highlights Of The Camp

24th November 2007: Participants started arriving at the venue on the evening of the 24th November 2007 and were welcomed; Rzd. B.D. Bali reached the venue at 8.30 PM and was welcomed with shouts of ‘Jai Mohyal’.

In his welcome speech, he lauded the Mohyal youth of Jalandhar, whose enthusiasm had made him accept their invitation to hold the youth camp at Jalandhar. As suggested by Dr. Ashok Lav, he desired that the participating Mohyal youth be divided into four groups to discuss and come up with their recommendations on the following topics:

                  1.   Role of Local Mohyal Sabhas for the empowerment of youth

               2.   Youth Expectations from the General Mohyal Sabha
                  3.    In what way the youth expect guidance/help from Mohyal Industrialists?
                  4.    How to inculcate Mohyali Culture in Mohyal youth?

24th November was the birthday of Shri Pushap Bali as well as Shri Saurabh Mohan and was celebrated with cutting of cake. Everybody present greeted them on their birthday. The wedding of Shri Rohit Datta had been celebrated two days back and the couple also were felicitated.

25th November 2007:The programme on the 25th November 2007 was at the Lion’s Club. About 1000 Mohyals took part. After the flag hoisting and welcome address by Rzd. B.D. Bali, the youth were divided into four groups, as decided on the previous day, and the leaders were requested to come up with their reports in the afternoon.

Reports of Team Leaders: After the Preeti Bhoj, the four Team Leaders presented their respective reports to the assemblage.

Group I – (Topic - Role of Local Mohyal Sabhas for the empowerment of youth):  The Group led by Shri M.B. Bali, in their report, made the following points:

  1. The interaction of the local sabhas with the youth is minimal.
  2. Meetings with the youth are very infrequent.
  3. The local sabhas should take the youth along in their activities.
  4. There should be less of discussions and more of action in the sabha meetings.
  5. Unemployment is a serious problem for the youth. They should be given employment or helped in getting employment .
  6. Scholarships should be given to the youth.
  7. Elders should come forward to give guidance to the youth.
  8. Youth should be encouraged in sports, education and cultural affairs.

Group II - (Youth Expectations from GMS): This group was led by Shri Rajendra Mehta (Lau). It made the following suggestions:

  1. GMS should reach those areas, where no local sabha exists.
  2. The problem of poor Mohyals in marrying off their children should be addressed by the GMS.
  3. Mohyals, who are in high positions, should help other Mohyals.
  4. GMS should bring out a Directory of Professionals.
  5. GMS should open residential schools and give employment to Mohyals as teachers.
  6. The upper age limit of Mohyal youth should be decided.

Group III – (In what ways youth expect help/guidance from Mohyal Industrialists?): The group, led by Shri Vikas Bali, made the following suggestions:

  1. There should be reservation for Mohyals in the Companies.
  2. GMS and the local sabhas should bring out Directories of Mohyal Businessmen and Industrialists and their names should be published in the Mohyal Mitter. .
  3. The GMS Website should be maintained uptodate.
  4. Vacancy Notices should be published in the Mohyal Mitter.
  5. Prefernce should be given to Mohyals in schools run by Mohyals.
  6. MERIT should be made more professional and should be result-oriented.

Group IV – (How to inculcate Mohyali Culture in Mohyal Youth?): This group was led by Shri Navdeep Dutta and made the following recommendations:

  1. The elder Mohyals should take their children and grandchildren to the meetings of the local sabhas, Mohyal Melas etc. By this, one generation gets culturally connected with the next generation.
  2. Articles relating to the Mohyal youth and children should be published in the Mohyal Mitter.
  3. Mohyal youth should be encouraged to read the ‘Mohyal History’.
  4. They should participate in the meetings of the local sabhas/Youth Wing.
  5. Cultural programmes should be organized for the Mohyal youth.

Reacting to the reports presented by the four groups, Dr. Rattan K. Datta CEO MERIT explained the facilities being provided by GMS through MERIT. He expressed his concern that why Mohyal youth is not getting the benefit from all the programs conducted by MERIT? He also offerred admission of qualified Mohyal youth to the engineering courses of PTU and help in placement. After that Rzd. B.D. Bali stressed the need for Mohyal youth to actively participate in the programmes of the GMS and the local sabhas, by enrolling themselves as members of these. They should actively work with the local sabhas. The community needs the youth. If the community is to progress, the youth has to come forward. GMS wants to give scholarships; but there are not enough applicants. We want to help the poor in conducting marriages of their children. But there are no takers. We also want to open schools.

Rzd. B.D. Bali added that the progress made by the community during the last 30 years had been phenomenal. The entire picture of the community has changed. Mohyals, as a community, stand out now.  It is necessary for the youth to persevere and make the community proud. We have brought the biradari to this level and now the youth should take over and take it further forward.

The cultural programme, with song & dance, which followed next, kept the audience spell-bound. The dignitaries present, including Rzd. B.D. Bali, Shri Rajeshwar Chaudhuri, Shri S.K. Dutta, President, District Mohyal Sabha Jalandhar and other office bearers of the GMS as well as the locals sabha, congratulated the participants in the cultural programme and many of them showered the children with gifts of money.

GMS office bearers and representatives of other local sabhas were presented with tropies and memntoes by the District Local Sabha, Jalandhar. Shri Pushap Bali was honoured by GMS for his brave act of saving a young girl from drowning in the Devi Talab Mandir Sarovar..

26th November 2007: The programme concluded with Brunch on the morning of the 26th November 2007.

The Youth Camp – 2007 was a memorable occasion, in which children, youth, ladies, and elders participated with enthusiasm, and will be remembered for a long time to come.

Note:  Detailed proceedings of the Youth amp (in Hindi) have been published in the Mohyal Mitter of December 2007 and January 2008.)

(2) Silver Jubilee Celebration of Bal Mohyal Sabha, Gurgaon

The Bal Mohyal Sabha, Jharsa Gurgaon, celebrated its Silver Jubilee on the 2nd December 2007. Rzd. B.D. Bali was the Chief Guest. Office bearers of GMS, representatives from local sabhas and many other dignitaries graced the function.

The highlights of the celebrations were the cultural events, viz., music, dance, play/skit, poems etc. by the children. Master Mohit Mehta gave a speech on Mohyal Rishis & Mohyal qualities. Nimisha Dutta enthralled all by her scintillating Dance Recital. Children from the Mohyal Public School, led by their Music Teacher, Alka Poonia, regaled the audience with songs, dance and thought-provoking programmes.

Cash Prizes were given by the Bal Sabha to students, who had passed the 10th and 12th Board Examinations, securing 90% or above marks.

A ‘Shagun’ of Rs. 5,100/- was given to the Bal Sabha by the GMS, as a token of blessings.

The Bal Mohyal Sabha brought out a Souvenir on the occasion.

Everyone congratulated the Bal Mohyal Sabha on their Silver Jubilee and praised the sabha for the successful organization of the function.

(3) The Second Grand Matrimonial Mela

The Second Grand Matrimonial Mela was organized by the GMS at the Mohyal Foundation, New Delhi, on the 9th December 2007. The first such Mela had been held at the same venue in April 2006, which had culminated in about 150 alliances (75 marriages).

The Second Matrimonial Mela was attended by around 700 persons, including parents, guardians and their marriageable children. Many of them (403) had sent the bio-data of their children to the GMS, in the prescribed form, earlier. These had been compiled into caste-wise lists – separately for boys and girls – and distributed to the parents. Some of the participants (75) had furnished the bio-data on the spot, which were also compiled into Supplementary Lists and distributed.

Arrangements had been made for matching horoscopes by the traditional Panditji as well as through computer. About 475 parents (250 through ‘Computer’ and 225 through the ‘Panditji’ took advantage of this facility.

The lists of boys and girls included highly qualified engineers, doctors, MBAs, M.Coms., LLBs,  hotel managers, accountants, teachers, graduates, entrepreneurs, businessmen, owners of Cinema halls etc. The bio-data had been received not only from many parts within the country, but also from abroad, viz., USA, UK, Canada and Spain.

Rzd. B.D. Bali ,who presided over the function,  was very much enthused by the response to this initiative of the GMS, last year as well as this year, and stated that this indicated a welcome trend that the Mohyals everywhere desired to marry their children within the community. He hoped that many alliances will be finalized as a result of this Mela. He also briefly touched on the resurgence off the community during the last three decades and stated the rank and file of the Mohyals now stand united under the GMS. He  exhorted the Mohyals to become Life Members of the GMS and suggested that each Mohyal family should subscribe to the Mohyal Mitter.

Mrs. Krishan Lata Chhibber, Secretary Istri Wing, GMS, and Convenor of the Matrimonial Mela, requested that the GMS may be informed of the alliances that may be finalized arising out of the Mela, so that the GMS data-base could be updated. It is noteworthy that she, together with her indefatigable husband, Shri S.K.  Chhibber, worked tirelessly day in and day out for organising the Mela and they deserve our heartiest congratulations and thanks for the success of the event.

The function concluded with a sumptuous Preeti Bhoj arranged by the GMS.

OBITUARY

The GMS lost one of its most sincere workers in the death of Shri P.L. Bali, Secretary Finance, GMS, on the 18th December 2007.  His cremation, on the same day, and Kriya on the 28th December 2007, was attended by a large number of Mohyals, relatives, friends, office bearers and staff of the GMS. Rzd. B.D. Bali, President, GMS, who was out of station on the day of Shri P.L. Bali’s death, telephonically conveyed his condolences. A Wreath was laid on the body, on behalf of GMS, by Mehta O.P. Mohan, Senior Vice President, GMS. All other also paid floral tributes to the departed soul.

A Condolence Resolution from the GMS was read by Shri G.L. Datta ‘Josh’ at the Kriya ceremony, attended among others, by Rzd. B.D. Bali, office bearers and members of the Managing Committee of the GMS and staff of GMS and MERIT. Condolence messages were received from many local sabhas and individuals also.

Shri P.L. Bali was a simple, unassuming person, ever ready to help people. He had been handling the accounts of the GMS, amounting to crores of rupees, very honestly, diligently and conscientiously. His colleagues in the GMS, who interacted with him, almost on a daily bases, and many of whom shared lunch with him, will sorely miss his serene presence. The void created by his death is difficult to fill.
